nasal speculum for submental intubation

چکیده
in 1986 altemir, for the first time, described submental intubation for maxillofacial cases. a problem with the technique is that the edges of the tube may damage the anatomic tissues of the mouth floor. to avoid such damages, a modification of this technique using nasal speculum is presented here. moreover, with this technique blood and detached tissues cannot enter into the endotracheal tube while passing through submental tissues. keywords : submental intubation, speculum, maxillofacial fracture

macinnis and baig modified altemirs’ original technique for sub‑mental intubation. instead of a lateral entry, they described a central entry just anterior to the sub‑mental crease that does not carry the risk of damage to the lingual nerves, submandibular ducts and sublingual glands. we describe here our experience with this modified sub‑mental intubation that also allows the operating surgeon...

Submental tracheal intubation is a simple, quick and effective alternative to oral and nasal tracheal intubation or tracheostomy in the surgical management of selected patients with craniomaxillofacial injuries. It has a low morbidity and it does not impede the surgical field, allowing for temporary maxillo-mandibular fixation (jaw wiring) intra-operatively, and nasal assessment, manipulation a...

Submental endotracheal intubation is a simple and secure alternative to either nasoendotracheal intubation or a tracheostomy in the airway management of maxillofacial trauma. However, a submental endotracheal intubation is quite difficult to manage if adverse events such as a tube obstruction, accidental extubation, or a leaking cuff with the endotracheal tube in the submental route occur, whic...
